RALEIGH – West Raleigh Presbyterian Church is celebrating 10 years of providing cars for people in need. The church gave its 1,000th refurbished vehicle for the program Wheels for Hope.

The program repairs and refurbishes donated cars and sell them at a low cost to people in need referred by local nonprofits.

“I did go through some hard times in life,” Vicki Battle, who bought a car through the program, said. “I had some negative things happen to me. But I was bound and determined not to let them defeat me.”

Battle got a degree and a new job, and Sunday, she got the Wheels for Hope program's 1,000th car.

“People that come through our different programs, they have been through so, so much,” said Myra Bradley, who referred Battle through Step Up Ministries. “Just to know that there's someone who cares, there's someone that gives them that encouragement, to get around a car and hold hands, and for that person to reflect and to pray about where they are and where they've been is a blessing.”
