RALEIGH -- Several Raleigh non profit groups are making sure North Carolina-based military units heading to Afghanistan know we're thinking about them as they serve. The Raleigh Tennis Association, in coordination with the USO and Blue Star Mothers of North Carolina, packed up more than 300 care kits Sunday at the North Hills Tennis Club.
"It's a great way for the community to show its support for these three units," said Patricia Dezetter of the USO North Carolina. "They're all local units that are going to Afghanistan. We want to make sure when they get there, they receive these care packages as just a reminder of things from home."
Those at the packing party enjoyed music, refreshments and tennis games. The USTA is also sending portable tennis equipment to troops to help combat stress and improve morale.
