After enduring five years of bone-chilling temperatures and nor'easters in Maine, Ryan Welch sought greener pastures and feeling in his extremities...so he headed south to Raleigh where he now works as a sports reporter/anchor at Time Warner Cable News.
A native of Massachusetts, Ryan's career in journalism began at WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine, where he worked in both news and sports. It was there where Ryan developed a passion for local sports. After a year in Bangor, he moved south to Portland where he worked for WMTW-TV, the ABC affiliate. While at WMTW, Ryan was honored for his reporting by the Associated Press...earning a first place award for a feature on a local tennis phenom. Working in southern Maine gave Ryan the opportunity to do what he loves and still be relatively close to home (he grew up 2 hours south). He liked it so much he spent four years in Portland. But the prospect of another Maine winter was a little daunting, so he moved south to Raleigh in September, 2007.
Although he is now ensconced in ACC country, Ryan attended a pair of Big East colleges earning a Bachelor's degree from Boston College (pre-ACC), and a Master's degree from Syracuse University. Translation: A promising future of paying off student loans!
When he is not hopelessly balancing his checkbook, you can find Ryan looking for a tennis match or a tee time.
