Deep-rooted textile plants emptied

KANNPOLIS, N.C. -- An Ohio-based company is selling off hundreds of pieces of furniture and equipment it purchased during the liquidation of the textile company Pillowtex.

The items came from plants in Kannapolis, China Grove, and Rockwell.

The company says Pillowtex is one of the biggest business liquidations in history.

Those in charge of the sale said it was a difficult task.

"You realize how important this was to the general public -- it's so devastating,” said liquidator Vince Trevino. “It kind of brings an eerie feeling to know they worked here for generations and generations. … It's hard."

In addition to furniture and office equipment, medical equipment from an employee clinic was also for sale.

The auction will continue through the end of September.
