RALEIGH -- A convicted sex offender has been granted a request to be removed from North Carolina’s sex offender registry.
A Wake County judge granted 43-year old Michael Gathings request to be removed from the list on Friday. Gathings was convicted of indecency with a child in 1992 after he admitted he had sex with a 7-year old girl he was babysitting.
He now lives in Raleigh after spending four years in a Texas prison for his crime.
Three other men are also asking to be removed from the registry. Since December, only two other people in North Carolina have successfully petitioned judges to be taken off the sex offender registry.
