CHARLOTTE -- The case against a man charged with statutory rape and taking indecent liberties with a minor, and who has also been named a person of interest in the shooting death of his 15-year-old adoptive sister, will go to the grand jury.
Royce Mitchell appeared in court Monday morning. His adoptive sister, Tiffany Wright, who was pregnant, was shot and killed last month at her school bus stop in north Charlotte.
The district attorney said the last statement from Wright before her death was that she and Mitchell had sex twice and he was the father of her baby. Mitchell's attorney argued differently, saying the teen had sex with several young men at her school, telling them they were the father of her baby.
Mitchell, who is married with six children, could face more charges because he is on federal probation.
