FAYETTEVILLE – It's that time of year again, time to go out and get a flu shot. But this year some pharmacies and local health departments in the Tar Heel State are offering a high dose flu shot, a shot four times stronger than a regular flu vaccine.
The shot came out last year but immunization coordinator for the Cumberland County Public Health Department, Maureen Mercer, says many patients are not aware of it until they come in for a vaccine.
Anyone 65 years or older wanting a flu shot is highly recommended to get the higher dose.
"A lot of senior citizens should get it because their immunity wears with age and we want them fully vaccinated,” said Mercer.
The Cumberland County Public Health Department has been offering flu shots since last Monday and they say they have already given out more than 50 high dose shots.
