FAYETTEVILLE – A Fayetteville man is dead after an officer-involved shooting that happened early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the scene just after 2 a.m. for a report of shots fired at a party where an altercation broke out.

Police and family members said the victim is Roman Lee Drake, 26.

They are in shock Tuesday as they receive news that one of their loves ones has been killed.

"Last time I saw him was around 8 p.m. last night when I dropped my daughter off to him,” said Santana Grissom.

Grissom said the father of her daughter was the man killed in an early morning shooting off Blan Street. Fayetteville Police said a party was taking place at this house when a fight broke out and shots were fired.

"The call came in around 2:16, officers arrived around 2:30, and while on scene the suspect returned to the residence and saw the officer and attempted to flee the residence,” said Gavin MacRoberts, Fayetteville Police public information officer.

Police said Drake hit a police car and then tried to run over another officer. That's when officers took cover and began to fire shots at the suspect.

Neighbors said the suspect drove his car into a mobile home. Police then said they walked up to the car and found the suspect dead inside, with a gun in his lap.

As family and friends arrived to the scene Tuesday, they said they were worried about the children who were inside the home while this was all taking place.

"Is my daughter OK, that is all I could think about,” said Grissom.

Police said no one else was injured in the incident.

The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation and two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. Their names have not been released. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
