DANBURY — Spending too much time outside in the sweltering heat can take its toll for some people.

For hundreds of people in the Piedmont, floating down the Dan River is the way to stay cool. The activity has become so popular, that some residents might have trouble getting their hands on a tube. To get in on the lazy river action, people will have to get in line to rent at tube.

At the Danbury General Store, that means arriving early.
"Get here early because you won't get a tube unless you have your own," said customer Jack Scheffer.
That only means the tube rental business is booming this summer.
"The hot weather has really brought folks out for us this season," said owner of the Danbury General Store Joan Allen.
With temperatures high, her business has been busy renting out all of her 350 tubes to customers eager to cool off in the water.
"It's a fun-filled activity for families, for children, everybody can go out there, have a good time and enjoy the day. It's a very lazy, slow-moving river and that's what we like for tubing," said Allen.
River tubers can be seen soaking in the sun, tied up to a cluster of friends and enjoying a beverage of choice. Their sleepy stupor only disturbed by the rocky breaks in the current, sending some floaters overboard.

"Looks like we're going to have a very hot summer. Please come out and join us. We would be more than glad to have you," said Allen.

The Danbury General Store said they will rent tubes through Labor Day weekend. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
