GOLDSBORO — Goldsboro residents trying to get a job are getting some unique tips on how to market themselves.

At an employment readiness training workshop in Goldsboro, residents learned to not come across as frustrated or desperate during interviews. Career coaches say it is understandably more difficult for those without high school diplomas or having criminal records, but it is not hopeless.

"It's a confidence issue; it's knowing that they can still go out and get jobs getting the CRC and just kind of taking the bull by the horns and going for it, not being afraid to apply and not being afraid of rejection,” said Jena Cantwell with Wayne Community College.

Specifically for those without a high school degree, coaches say there is one step that must be done.

"You definitely need to get your GED or the adult high school program just because employers have a lot of candidates out there," said Wayne.

This was the first of two trainings planned for the month. The unemployment rates for June come out Friday morning. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
