RALEIGH – Temporary rules allowing night hunting of feral pigs and coyotes on private property are officially in effect.

It is all part of population control efforts for the two animals wildlife officials say hurt the land, livestock, and domestic animals.

Hunters no longer need a permit to hunt the two animals at night for up to 270 days or until wildlife officials decide to switch back to permanent rules.

The rules only apply to private land, and if you're hunting on someone else's property you have to get their permission. Night hunting is still banned on public land.
