PINEHURST — The largest golf tournament for players 12-years-old and under is taking place in Pinehurst.

The tournament has attracted more than 1,200 players from across the world, ages 5 to 12, are competing for the title of US Kids Golf World Champion. Competitor Olivia White traveled from Los Angeles with her parents and younger sister. White knows what an accomplishment it is to participate in the tournament.

All golfers had to qualify through world championship qualifiers, local tours, and regional championships.

"I think I have come a long way. I am here now and before I was just practicing at our course,” said, White

The best of the best are participating in this tournament. When they are not competing, the kids are out on the green practicing.

"You have to practice and practice. You just have to love it,” said competitor Davis Eichelberger.

Their parents are right by their sides cheering them on.

"Kids are different today, I think parents are raising kids to be competitive. They know what it takes to play this sport, and golf is such a wonderful sport. It brings a family together, and I think if its in your blood, you are out here,” said mother of competitor Cathie White.

While for the majority of the kids winning the tournament is the ultimate goal. However having fun is more important.

"I'm not going to be disappointed, my goal is just to finish top 20, top 10, and just have fun,” said Eichelberger.

The tournament continues in Pinehurst through Sunday. To get a Behind the Scenes look at Amanda Weber's work on this story, visit her blog on the Pinehurst Resort website. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 (http://commoncrawl.org/faq/) Profile: TWCSAMLSP
