CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. — Governor Bev Perdue went back to school shopping on Friday.
The governor said she bought and donated schools supplies to encourage others give to the nonprofit group organization Communities in Schools.

"As we give teachers and principals and school kids and families a good fresh start in August as we go back to school let's do it the right way by all pitching in," said Perdue.

Wal-Marts across the state have partnered with Communities in Schools to hold drives to benefit less fortunate children. District manager Eric Litchfield said he is glad his stores are participating.

"Just seeing the outpouring of assistance for these children and knowing that that is going to go support them in their education so that they can do something in their life. It's a great cause," said Litchfield.

Donors are encouraged to give to back to school drives this weekend because most back to school items are tax free. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
