WILSON — A section of Wilson near Barton College is undergoing a major transformation.

As part of a project funded mostly by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Two, one-way-roads are changing into two-way roads. It is an effort to spur economic growth in the area and calm traffic down.

Raleigh Road Parkway is complete and will be open to drivers Thursday. Residents say they are ready for the change.

"I have friends that come over and it is kind of tough getting in and out. I think it's a very good idea and I've been waiting for a while now. When I heard rumors about it I was like 'Oh my gosh this is great',” said Wilson resident David Rogers.

Other parts of the project include changing an intersection into a roundabout and turning Atlantic Christian College Drive into a two-way road.

"I think everybody's ready for the porject ot be complete so we can get moving on it," said Wilson City Engineer Bryant Bunn.

The roundabout will re-open for Barton College student orientation and move-ins next week.
