GREENSBORO — Forsyth County sheriff's deputies say it appears a middle school athletic director died when he fell from a hunting stand.
Paul Wilkins, 35, known as “Aaron" to his friends, was found in some woods near Flat Rock Middle School early Thursday morning. His death comes just as state wildlife officials release their annual tree stand safety reminders.
Authorities say one of the most important safety measures for hunters is a harness that will hold them in case of a fall.
"The biggest problem is, a lot of folks tend to get complacent when they climb up and down the tree, they may be getting in a hurry, they need to take their time, make sure they're wearing a harness," said D.J. Woods with NC Wildlife Resource Commission.
WIlkins' church in Clemmons has set up a trust for the families four-boys. Anyone who would like more information on how to donate, click here.
