WAKE COUNTY — It was a celebrated homecoming Monday, as some of the Triangle-area Olympic medalists flew back to RDU.

Olympic divers, their coach, and Men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and his assistants came home with their new Olympic medals in hand. Two athletes and a handful of coaches; all Olympic medalists and all Duke Blue Devils.

They say they have had the time of their lives, but now they are happy to be home. Young divers from across the Triangle came out to RDU, eager to get autographs from silver medalist Abby Johnston.

“It's really weird. I never thought this would happen and it's just really cool people would want my autograph or take a picture with me,” said Johnston.

But for now, it is time for all of these Olympic medalists to go back to school with the rest of their classmates. But this year, they will be sporting some extra hardware; something that is still hard for their friends and teammates to comprehend.

“It was amazing to watch them in the Olympics, just knowing them and getting to watch them on television was great and then winning medals is awesome. Nick just let me touch his medal, so it's awesome to see it,” said Duke swimmer Adam Flur.

As for Coach Krzyzewski, he said this was his last time coaching in the Olympics. Krzyzewski said he is going to take a few days to rest and recover, then he is getting to work for Duke's upcoming season. However it certainly was a proud moment for the Triangle area, welcoming the Olympic medalists back home.
