RALEIGH-- Looking to buy a boat?

Thousands hit the N.C. State Fairgrounds for the Carolina Boat Show and Sale, all looking for a deal. With dealers rushing to get closeout models off their lots, shoppers saved big.

"Now that they have the boat show, we saved about $4,000 dollars buying it this weekend opposed to buying it a few weeks ago," shopper David Criscuolo said. "So we're pretty happy about that."

With prices ranging from $15,000 to $75,000 dollars, there was something for everyone, no matter what floats your boat. Getting behind one of the new boats is cheaper than most people think, and dealers said despite the troubled economy, people are still buying.

Boat dealer Kipp Thompson works with Chatlee Boat and Marina in Sanford, N.C.

"The economy has hurt other people more so than it has us because boating is fun," Thompson said. "It's something you can do with the family and people are finding it is more affordable then what you might think."

You don't have to look very far in North Carolina to find a good place to set sail.

"People go to Jordan Lake, Shearon Harris Lake, Lake Gaston, Falls Lake, all over really," Thompson said.

Criscuolo said he's cashing in his vacation for a little family time on the water.

"We were figuring when we go to Disney every year we're spending $6,000 to $7,000 dollars for a family of five. So we figured we thought it would be cheaper to buy a boat and enjoy all the beautiful things here in North Carolina," Criscuolo said.

Dealers expect the 2013 models to arrive in September. They said you can still save a lot on a 2012 model before the new boats arrive.
