NEW BERN — The accused ring leader and another man in the Triangle-based terror plot were sentenced Friday in New Bern, accused of plotting Jihadist attacks against American military targets.

Daniel Boyd was one of eight men who pleaded guilty to participating in terrorist activities. Anes Subasic received a 30-year sentence. The group's ringleader, Boyd, received a sentence of 18 years. Both men received five years of supervised probation at the end of their sentences.

Boyd's family was in the courtroom and expressed sorrow during sentencing. Boyd's attorneys and the government agreed the defendant has made a 'total transformation' and is no longer a threat to society. The defense said that Boyd was a victim who was seduced by radical Jihadism.

The government agreed, noting that Boyd said his arrest by the FBI was similar to an intervention. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
