ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Herman Cain had presidential aspirations himself heading into this year's election cycle, but when his hopes were dashed his mission was refocused. Tuesday, he was fired up and full steam ahead with his support of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan while speaking to North Carolina delegates.

"You have to be steadfast because we've got stupid people running America, stupid people," said Cain.

Cain stressed media questions swirling about the GOP's presumptive nominees' likeability are a distraction.

"It is not about likeability, it's about leadership," he said.

Cain's straight-to-the-point message was well received by North Carolina's delegation. Many said more people need to tell it like it is during this election season.

"I think at this point of time in history of the United States it is time for some plain speech that everybody can understand," said Ann Sullivan, a delegate from Wayne County.

Miriam Aikens, an alternative delegate from Rockingham County, agreed.

"They are tired of all rhetoric, of all the things that are fluffy and flowery, they want the truth," she said.

Cain certainly fired these delegates up as he received a standing ovation at the early morning meeting.

"I have a message for President Obama, my dad did do that, he did that," said Cain.

Cain reminded the delegates not to leave anything on the table between now and November and said he will do his part to help in North Carolina this fall with two trips to the Tar Heel state already planned.
