NASHVILLE, N.C. -- A controversial plan to build a chicken processing plant in Nash County is moving forward. The county commission held a public hearing Monday night before it decided to allow a Sanderson Farms chicken plant to make the area its home.
Residents for against the plant came to voice their opinions about it.
"It's gonna be full of polluted chicken waste, nitrates, everything that is disastrous," said Roseann Shearin.
"You're gonna have all kinds of farming done around you and I chose that when I moved to where I've been here 30 years and so I just believe as the little button says, 'say yes to jobs,'" said Ken Sikes.
Sanderson Farms says it will invest more than $91 million in the area and create 1,100 jobs.
