DURHAM—In taking a look at Duke football, one has to look back through the pages of history.

The Blue Devils have not played in a bowl game since 1994 and have not beaten the UNC Tar Heels since 2003. However, both streaks could be snapped on Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium. For Duke head coach David Cutcliffe, the confidence is far from lost.

“We have a good football team. The second half, the later part of the second quarter into the second half of that game does not change that,” said Cutcliffe.

After Duke pulled away with a 20-0 first quarter lead last Saturday against Va. Tech, the Hokies pulled off 41 unanswered points. Now the key is to make sure the same team does not beat them twice.

“If you want to beat good teams, you have to play a complete game. Good teams are going to make you play all four quarters,” said Kenny Anunike.

Saturday's loss in Blacksburg, Va. Brought the Blue Devil's to 5-2 overall. Yet this Saturday's game at Wallace Wade stadium will be the 99th meeting with the Carolina Tar Heels and a chance to secure bowl eligibility.

“It's Carolina Week, everybody is going to be up for this game; no matter what the circumstances I think the overall attitude of the team is good,” said Sean Renfree.

If Duke wants to have a chance at winning on Saturday, they will have to deal with Giovani Bernard and attempt to contain Larry Fedora's high-octane spread offense. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
