A simple coat of paint can make any room in your house feel brand new. Color is very subjective and a matter of personal taste, but if you ask the professionals, there are certain colors that are more popular from time to time.

"Right now the beige colors and tans are really popular because they're easy colors, and they go with a lot of different things. It's why a lot of people are choosing those colors right now, it makes all the furniture, all the accents in their home definitely pop nice," explained Matthew Maddalone, Painting by MHomes.

A fresh coat of paint is also the easiest and cheapest way to spruce up your house when it is time to sell.

"You definitely want to keep in mind what's appealing to prospective buyers walking through. What's going to make them feel warm when they walk in," suggested Maddalone. "Definitely stay neutral in your creamy colors or beige. It definitely helps when you want to put your house on the market."

Keep in mind, however, that a little prep work may be required before you start to paint. Some sanding may be necessary, and any holes will need to be patched.

"One thing for sure you want to take care of it nail holes or dings in the walls. Those are important, because you want to get them spackled before you go and paint the room. Otherwise, it's not going to look crisp, and new, and clean," said Maddalone.

If you have kids at home who like to draw on the walls, Maddalone recommended a satin finish paint, which makes it easier to wipe away any marks. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
