NEWPORT — A coastal woman had to be airlifted to the hospital after a wreck in Newport Tuesday night.

Highway Patrol Troopers say Aileach Kelly, 20, ran her car off of Kake Road around 10:15 p.m. hit a road sign and crashed into a tree. No other cars were involved. She was taken to Vident Memorial Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses said this is not the first accident they have seen along the road.

“I just heard a loud bang. This is eighth or ninth accident around this curve,” said witness Michelle Owens.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor and no charges have been filed.
