RALEIGH — More people are riding Amtrak, especially in North Carolina.
The railroad said March was its best month ever. Ridership grew nearly 1 percent from October to March despite disruptions from weather, including Superstorm Sandy.
Two North Carolina routes showed a strong surge in numbers in the first six month of the fiscal year. The Piedmont Route from Charlotte to Raleigh was up 8.6 percent and the Carolinian which goes from Charlotte to Raleigh up to New York was up 6.3 percent.
Amtrak said October, December and January also set individual monthly records.
