FAYETTEVILLE -- Construction to a one-of-a-kind memorial to the Airborne Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville is slated to start next weekend. Boy Scout Troop 745 will be out Saturday setting the ground work for the base of the memorial.

The memorial is in honor of Special Operation or Multi Purpose K9s who have been killed in the line of duty. It will be the only one in the country specifically for these dogs.

"This will be a place of honor. The K9 memorial is directly in our circle right outside the parade grounds looking directly at Iron Mike," said ASOM Foundation Executive Director Paul Galloway.

The museum partnered with SOF Memorial Foundation and the Boy Scouts to raise donations to fund the $25,000 memorial. The memorial will be a 36 inch life-size bronze statue of a Belgian Malinois wearing combat gear.

If you would like to donate, visit the SOF website here.
