GREENSBORO—More indications of North Carolina's importance as a swing state in the presidential election, as First Lady Michelle Obama campaigned in Greensboro for her husband's re-election, Wednesday.

Mrs. Obama spoke to more than 2,000 people at UNC Greensboro's Fleming Gymnasium.

"I am so thrilled to be here and I am thrilled that I will be coming back here to North Carolina next month for our convention," said Michelle Obama.

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx reminded the room about the upcoming Democratic National Convention in September and the weight the state has in the upcoming election.

"We look forward to finishing that journey in November, by keeping North Carolina blue," said Foxx.

Mrs. Obama spoke of the success of her husband's investment in the auto industry, the Affordable Care Act, and how keeping him in the White House could impact the next four years.

"When it comes time to stand up for the middle class so our kids can go to college and our families can make a decent living and save for retirement, you know what my husbands going to do," said Obama.

Last week, the First Lady launched her It takes one initiative, which calls on supporters to spread the work to other voters about the president's vision. She said grassroots efforts are at the core of this campaign, and that every vote counts.

"He cannot do this alone, that was never the promise. That one new voter that you register, that one neighbor you help get to the polls on November the 6th, that could be the one that makes the difference," said Obama.

The First Lady also made a stop in Raleigh Wednesday evening for a fundraising event. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
