RALEIGH -- Hundreds of Saint Augustine students marched to the polls on Tuesday.

Just before noon, they gathered on campus, then walked to their designated precinct about a mile away.

Many students say they support the $75 million transportation bond that is on the ballot and the road improvements it could bring to east Raleigh.

“As you see on the other side of town at N.C. State University, there is the R line that provides free transportation for its students. I would love to see that for our students. A lot of our first-year students do not have the opportunity to have cars on campus so providing that free transportation that will get them around Raleigh is truly needed on our side of town,” said Ashley Nelson, student president of Saint Augustine's College.

According to Saint Augustine's President, Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber, campaigns like this are effective and voter registration has jumped from about 15 percent to more than 75 percent during her 14 years on campus.
